Galveston County health officials report neuroinvasive West Nile virus case in resident
It's the first West Nile virus case in Galveston County in 2026. Health officials there say the resident, who is hospitalized, had "travel exposures" outside of the county during their incubation period.

Drivers going to Galveston face I-45 lane closures, extended detour starting Aug. 8
The most significant traffic changes will be short-term main lane closures from FM 519 to Tiki Drive and a reroute near La Marque and Texas City that will be in place for the next two years. They're part of a project to widen I-45 to eight lanes.
