The Grand Galvez Hotel in Galveston gets a Hollywood spotlight in the latest episode of 1923, the Yellowstone spinoff, bringing history and drama to life with stunning cinematography and local ties.

Galveston's first appearance in Hollywood was in the prequel to Yellowstone (1923), where the famous Grand Galvez Hotel was a big part of a dramatic scene.
The episode aired last Sunday takes viewers back in time with a stunning wide shot from the Gulf of Mexico that shows the pink front of the Grand Galvez and the historic Murdoch's bathhouse, both digitally rebuilt to look like they did in the early 1900s.
The movie "1923" was filmed in August of last year, and the group stayed at the Galvez for almost two weeks. Mark Wyant, the hotel owner, remembered how exciting it was and said that the bar was a popular spot for cast and crew.
Spencer Dutton, played by Brandon Sklenar, is a hero in World War I. In this episode, he comes to Galveston and helps a made-up Luca Maceo unload crates of alcohol under Murdoch's. This nods to the real Maceo family, notorious for influencing the island during Prohibition
Spencer's meeting with Sal Maceo (Giles Marini) leads to a heated argument in the Galvez's hallway. Wyant and his family even appear in the fight scene, responding with "shock and dismay" as the punches are thrown.
James Crowley, who was in charge of finding locations for the show, looked around Galveston for more than a year to ensure it was proper to history. Ashton Villa, a historic house used as an English manor for the show, was also used in production.
As a goodbye gift, the team of 1923 left behind the front desk built to look like it was from that time. This added a piece of Hollywood history to the Grand Galvez's already rich history.
