College of the Mainland (COM) received a $245,200 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's Student Success Acceleration Program 2.0. The grant will help reengage students who paused their education, offering resources like scholarships and debt relief to complete their degrees.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has awarded College of the Mainland (COM) a $245,200 grant as part of the Student Success Acceleration Program (SSAP) 2.0. This funding aims to reengage students who have interrupted their education prior to concluding their coursework by offering them the necessary resources to complete their degrees.
Deborah Fregia, Associate Dean of Student Services at COM, stated, "This grant strengthens our capacity to offer essential assistance to students who have encountered obstacles during their academic careers." The grant will focus on adult learners, particularly those who have six or fewer courses remaining in their programs. It will facilitate a more seamless return to education by offering last-dollar scholarships and covering past-due balances.
The childcare support initiative is a substantial aspect of the SSAP grant, which is intended to help parent students who may have suspended their studies due to a lack of resources. COM's objective is to enhance completion rates and enable a greater number of students to accomplish their academic and professional objectives by overcoming these obstacles.
Only 26 institutions were chosen to receive a portion of the $6 million allocated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for evidence-based programs that enhance student persistence and credential completion rates. The college was one of them. This grant is indicative of COM's dedication to student success and emphasizes the significance of assisting those who are encountering challenges in their educational endeavors.
Thanks to this funding, the College of the Mainland is prepared to implement innovative initiatives to assist students in reengaging and guarantee that they receive the requisite support to complete their education and succeed in their future professions.
