On Saturday, the Southwest Regional Puppetry Festival, which highlighted puppetry's rich history and craft, pleased guests at the Rosenberg Library in Galveston. The "Galveston Loves Puppets!" festival was organized with the Greater Houston Puppetry Guild and Puppeteers of America. It provided two full days of entertaining events, shows, and learning opportunities.
Live puppet performances by skilled puppeteers from all over Texas brought tales to life for the audience. The event also offered interactive workshops, allowing attendees to make and take home their puppets. The purpose of these interactive workshops was to encourage creativity and give participants a taste of the artistry involved in puppetry.
Intricately crafted puppet exhibits, some specially loaned to the library, were also part of the festival, showcasing the variety of methods and craftsmanship that go into creating puppets. The event was educational and enjoyable with continuing education hours available to educators.
Although registration was necessary in advance for each day of attendance, the event was free and accessible to anyone. This one-of-a-kind event honored puppetry as a classic art form that captivated audiences of all ages and deepened their understanding of theatrical performance.
