HPD Captain Relieved of Duty After League City Arrest on Child Pornography Charges

Authorities said Wednesday that a Houston Police Department (HPD) captain had been detained and charged with possessing child pornography.

Following a late Tuesday night report, League City Police detained Captain Edwards. The information set off an instant inquiry that resulted in an Edwards home search warrant. League City Police discovered evidence sufficient to arrest him on charges of possession of child pornography after the search. In a statement on X (previously Twitter), the Houston Police Department confirmed that Edwards has been relieved of duty while the Internal Affairs Division investigates the arrest.

"HPD takes all allegations of criminal activity seriously, particularly when it involves one of our officers," the agency said. "We shall fully assist League City Police in handling this matter."

Edwards was the captain of the HPD Auto Theft Section. Regarding the case, officials have not revealed any specifics regarding the type of evidence discovered during the search. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities and Houston locals have grown concerned about the arrest.

As the inquiry progresses, people of communities and advocacy groups are pushing for complete openness and responsibility. HPD underlined that Edwards's detention does not reflect departmental beliefs and that they are dedicated to respecting the law, even if it means one of their own.

Edwards is still in detention. In the next few days, further information regarding court events could be expected.
