La Marque Police Chief Randall Aragon urges city leaders to approve a new headquarters as the department faces overcrowding and logistical challenges due to rapid city growth.
La Marque Police Chief Randall Aragon is advocating for a new police headquarters to tackle the significant overcrowding and outdated facilities that have affected the department for over two years.
“Our evidence storage has reached capacity, spilling over into portable buildings, and we have an excessive number of officers squeezed into areas not intended for such a crowd,” Aragon stated. The department's existing headquarters, initially intended for a smaller number of officers and equipment, has proven to be increasingly insufficient as the city undergoes substantial growth.
La Marque, experiencing population growth and enhanced city services, has placed increasing demands on police resources. Officers currently operate in offices that are excessively cramped for the existing team, and evidence storage has overflowed into temporary structures, which raises significant concerns regarding security and efficiency.
The necessity for improved facilities within the department highlights wider issues associated with La Marque’s swift growth. City officials recognize the issue, yet the approval for a new police headquarters depends on funding and budget priorities.
Aragon highlighted that establishing a new headquarters is essential, not merely for convenience, but to guarantee that the department can adequately meet the needs of the expanding community.
“Our focus is on equipping our officers with the necessary tools and environment to perform their duties efficiently while addressing the needs of our expanding city,” Aragon stated.
City leaders are anticipated to delve deeper into the issue during the forthcoming budget planning sessions.
