A tragic discovery was made in Galveston Harbor as the body of 32-year-old Cameron Sharman was recovered from a submerged truck. Authorities are investigating and requesting information from the public.
Early Friday morning, Port of Galveston Police found the victim of a terrible tragedy in Galveston Harbor. Recoverable from the cab of a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup discovered drowned close to Pier 20 was Cameron Sharman, 32, of La Marque.
The truck leaving Pier 20 into the harbour at 2:14 a.m. was shown on security footage. After claims of a shattered wooden railing surfaced about 11:30 a.m., Pier 20, a working pier in a business area open to the public, became the scene of a recovery operation.
Police responded to the claim by looking at camera footage and verifying the vehicle sank into the sea. About 29 feet below the surface, a port patrol boat using sonar spotted the truck. Bad water visibility delayed the body's confirmation in the cab until the car was recovered at 7 p.m.
Police said Sharman was the only person living in the truck at the time of the event. Still under inquiry are the cause of death and the events guiding the vehicle into the sea.
Authorities appeal to the public for information. Anyone with specifics regarding the event can get in touch at (409) 766-6169, the Port of Galveston Police Department advises.
The sad discovery raises unresolved issues, and detectives are trying to put together the circumstances behind Sharman's early death.
