SWAT Team Raids Home of New Orleans Attack Suspect in Harris County

On Thursday, federal and local law enforcement agencies gathered at a property in north Harris County as part of the ongoing investigation into the fatal New Orleans New Year’s Day attack.

The FBI in Houston, in collaboration with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, established a perimeter around Hugh Road and Crescent Peak Drive, advising the public to steer clear of the vicinity. Witnesses observed the arrival of SWAT teams at the property.

According to KPRC 2, authorities took at least four children and five adults from a nearby house. A man soon appeared from the suspect's home, hands raised, as officers aimed their weapons at him. He was apprehended without any complications.

The property is recorded in public documents as the home of Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Army veteran and the suspected assailant in the New Orleans incident. Jabbar took the lives of 15 individuals and caused injuries to more than 35 others by driving a rented pickup truck into crowds on Bourbon Street.

The FBI has recognized Jabbar as potentially linked to ISIS, referencing videos he made in which he pledged allegiance to the organization prior to the attack. Investigators are currently scrutinizing his home and online presence for clues that may illuminate his radicalization and motivations.

The situation in Harris County is ongoing, as law enforcement is meticulously searching the property. Investigators seek to establish if anyone else was involved or had knowledge of Jabbar’s plans prior to the attack.

This development signifies an essential advancement in the investigation as communities in Texas and Louisiana contend with the repercussions of the tragic events.
